Raised by Peter M. Gideon at Excelsior, Minnesota, USA from Cherry Crab open-pollinated. First recorded in 1860. Received an Award of Merit from Royal Horticultural Society in 1893. Fruits have rather soft, coarse-textured, juicy, sweet flesh with a faint vinous flavour.
