Culinary plum

Prunus domestica L.

Thought to have originated in Besancon, France. Known in the 1500s. Its original English name was said to be White Imperial but was changed in 1729 by Batty Langley. Fruits have firm, fairly juicy flesh but with little flavour. Cooks well. Self-fertile.
