Raised by Sidney Ford, gardener at Leonardslee, Horsham, Sussex. Introduced in about 1880 by W. Paul & Son. It received a First Class Certificate from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1878. Fruits have tender flesh with a sweet and subacid flavour. Cooks well.
