Culinary plum

Prunus domestica L.

Raised by Rivers of Sawbridgeworth and first fruited in 1874. The Russian Emperor was on a visit to this country, so the plum was named Czar in his honour. Fruits have tender flesh with a pleasant acid flavour. Cooks well.
