This variety is of French origin. It was first described in 1803. Received by the National Fruit Trials in 1948 from the Centre de Recherches Agronomiques, Pont-de-la-Maye, France. Fruits have fairly firm, very juicy flesh with a slightly rich, sweet subacid flavour.
