Cider apple

Malus domestica Borkh.

Grown at the National Fruit and Cider Institute, Long Ashton, Bristol in 1903. Trees were also grown in some Herefordshire orchards in the 1920s and 1930s. Trees are very slow coming into cropping. Fruits are small-medium in size with a sweet, astringent, woolly textured flesh. Produces a soft, full-bodied, medium bittersweet cider.
